My Account
My Account is a secure portal that allows you to manage your tax, view and change your personal tax, view benefit information etc online. If you are having a sole proprietorship or partnership, you need this account.
With this type of account, you can view your account history, view status of tax return, check the balance, access information about instalment you have paid or you owe, find your RRSP deduction limit and contribution, view notice of assessment or notice of reassessment, view carryover amount, get email notification regarding new CRA correspondence and much more.
To access and manage your account, you need to sign in to your account. To have your sign in username and password, you have to register an account.
How to Register for My Account
You can access your My Account either through a Sign-In Partner or CRA account. In case of sign-in partner, you can use your financial institutions online banking username and password to sign in. In order to register, you must have filed and assessed a return for one of the last two years. Follow the steps given below on how to register an account.
- Go to http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/esrvc-srvce/tx/ndvdls/myccnt/menu-eng.html
- Visit the button ‘CRA Register’ if you want to create a CRA account. If you want to sign in through sign-in partner, click on the ‘Continue to Sign-in Partner’.
- Enter your personal information such as your social insurance number, date of birth, ZIP code, amount you entered on your income tax from the current or previous year form copy of your return.
- Create your user id and password if you are not using sign-in partner. Select your security questions and answer them.
On successful completion of the registration process, you will receive a security code. When you login with your user id and password, you will have to enter your security code too. You can get quick access to your personal information any time by identifying yourself.
My Business Account
Business owners can access various information such as GST/HST, payroll, import/export accounts, corporate income tax, exercise tax and more through My Business Account.
In order to access and manage your business account, you need to register an account. Once registered, you can login anytime.
How to Register for My Business Account
The registration is almost similar to registering for My Business Account. Here in place of security code, you will have to enter your Business Number when you login.
Represent a Client
You can represent a client meaning you can authorize your officers, accountant, lawyer, employee etc to access your CRA business account with authorization check. Authorization level can be updated later too.
While registering a client,
- Enter access code on your Notice of Assessment and ZIP code.
- Create a CRA user ID and password. Select security questions and answer them.
On successful registration, you will receive a representative identifier (RepID) or a group identifier (GroupID).Give your Business Number (BN), GroupID or RepID to the client you are representing. Once authorized, you can access the Represent a Client service and access tax information.
